Even though we’ve been industry leaders in this business for 46 years, 2018 has been a landmark year for the company. Between rebranding, awards, exciting plans for new equipment and some pretty big business deals, there are a lot of milestones we aren’t likely to forget.
Pinion & Adams become P&A
The official launch of our new business name P&A Fabricators, our new logo and branding was held 15 June 2018. This was a change that signified an new era for the company and a determined focus on the future. Our team were committed to making the event a great success for our valuable customers, suppliers, staff and family members – and they did a fantastic job!
We established a new dynamic sales and marketing team and that, combined with a new digital marketing strategy and the rollout of our new branding onto a newly revamped website and our fleet of vehicles, significantly contributed to us reaching record highs in our sales input and turnover.
New ISO & B-BEE certification
At the launch of our rebranding, we also celebrated our ISO 9001:2015 certification. ISO 9001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organizations use the standard to demonstrate the ability to consistently provide good quality products and services, that meet customer and regulatory requirements. In 2019 we aim to achieve ISO 3834 (which is a welding quality management system) and EN 15085 (railway specific).
We also were accredited as a Level 3 B-BEE Company in 2018. We are proud of this achievement as it showed P&A’s commitment to transformation in the economy and the economic growth of South Africa for all South Africans.
Awards and Recognition
This year saw P&A be awarded 1st runner-up in the Business Excellence and Most Transformed Company Award, for the steel sector category. We received this honour for being an outstanding example of catering to an ever-changing industry with a business practice that invests in products and services to better support their customer base. We were also recently nominated as one of only five businesses to be recognised by the Department of Labour, in the Employment Equity Awards. These accolades belong to each and every P&A employee, as everything we do is a complete team effort.
Big Deals of 2018
We saw a lot of big business deals for P&A, thanks to the outstanding efforts of our sales teams, in 2018. Earlier this year P&A secured a multi-million Rand project to fabricate and supply three 1,152 bag filter units complete with ducting. The project entails the fabrication of 100 tons of carbon steel and includes structural steelwork. This exciting project had a tight time frame of three months from start to finish.
Another milestone deal was a multi-million Rand order with ND Engineering that we recently secured. It involves the supply of 80 tonnes of materials, for the provision and fabrication of ducting from Carbon Steel. This massive project comprises of shop manufacturing drawings, laser cutting, bending, rolling and welding. The ducting and cone sizes vary from 2,300mm to 5,800mm in diameter!
New Equipment & Plans for More
This year we installed and began using our new Tube Laser Cutter Machine. Being able to offer this service to our customers has only reinforced our decision to commit to invest over R35 million in new equipment for 2019.
We are already in the process of purchasing a new rolling machine to handle the ducting sizes for one of the massive orders P&A landed this year. This new machine will allow us to roll ducting up to 16mm in thickness.
Our CEO, Gerald Anthony, even attended the Hannover Euro Blech Sheet Metal Tradeshow in Germany in October this year. This is part of our ongoing commitment to our customers to keep up with the latest technology. Watch this space to hear more about the big plans we have for P&A in 2019.
